This internship provides an opportunity to gain experience in athletic performance enhancement, program development, and the daily maintenance of a weight room. Interns participate in weekly instructional sessions with strength coaches tailored to their specific, predetermined learning goals. This is an unpaid, full-time position lasting 10 to 11 weeks, requiring approximately 30 hours per week.
What you'll do#
- Assist with athletic performance enhancement and program development.
- Perform daily maintenance and upkeep of the weight room and surrounding area.
- Complete assigned homework tasks.
- Serve as a representative of Olmsted Medical Center as an educator and professional in the community and at conferences.
- Learn coaching techniques for various sports and utilize electronic strength training software.
- React to and assist with emergency situations as needed.
What you'll need#
- Junior level status or higher in a bachelor’s degree program for Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Strength and Conditioning, Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or a related field.
- Current BLS certification.
- Enrollment in a program that requires an internship for credit.
- Experience with sports performance equipment and programming.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to work with a variety of personalities.
- Ability to multi-task and maintain weight room facilities.
Location & details#
- Location: Rochester, Minnesota.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, with hours ranging from 5:30 am to 7:45 pm, and occasional Saturdays. Schedules are determined based on coach availability.
- Term: Rolling.
