About the role#
The Clinical Extern program provides nursing students with an opportunity to gain hands-on clinical experience within the Palliative and Complex Care units. As an Unregulated Health Care Provider, you will work alongside an assigned Staff Nurse to develop your clinical skills and understanding of the nursing profession. This position is a paid, part-time role supporting the nursing team through the Fall 2026 term.
What you'll do#
- Perform fundamental patient care duties under the guidance of the nursing team.
- Assist with the daily functioning of the nursing team at the patient care level.
- Contribute to a positive experience for patients and their families.
- Adhere to strict privacy and confidentiality guidelines in an interprofessional environment.
- Work a variety of shifts, including days, nights, and weekends, with a minimum requirement of one shift per week.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited School of Nursing or BScN program, specifically entering the final years of study.
- Current BLS certification.
- Well-developed communication, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and take initiative.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality and hospital safety policies.
Location & details#
- Location: Markham, Ontario.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $21 per hour.
- Term: Fall 2026, with the position expected to continue until approximately March 2027.
