About the role#
As an Instructor Guard or Supervisor Instructor Guard, you will maintain a safe, welcoming aquatic environment for residents of all ages. You will combine safety supervision with instructional responsibilities to help community members build water safety skills and confidence. This role involves working in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Lifesaving Society standards.
What you'll do#
- Safeguard life and prevent accidents at County swimming pools through vigilant supervision.
- Provide instruction to individuals and groups in organized classes, including preparing lesson plans and evaluating student progress.
- Perform lifeguard duties during recreational swims and other aquatic programs.
- Complete necessary reports and documentation regarding pool operations, including incident reports, water readings, and class attendance.
- Provide professional customer service, including assisting with inquiries and processing transactions.
- Maintain the facility through equipment checks, cleaning, and sanitization.
- Supervisor Instructor Guards will also provide direction to student staff, act as a mentor, and complete staff evaluations.
What you'll need#
- Minimum age of 15 years.
- Current full-time enrollment in a secondary or post-secondary institution, with plans to return to school full-time for the next term.
- Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor certification.
- National Lifeguard certification.
- Standard First Aid with C.P.R. Level C and A.E.D.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of alertness and work effectively as part of a team.

- Employment Type: Full-time (up to 24 hours per week).
- Compensation: $23.75 per hour for Instructor Guard; $26.10 per hour for Supervisor Instructor Guard.
