About the role#
The Governor's Fellow in the Office of Legislative Affairs supports the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection by conducting policy research and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders. This role offers experience at the intersection of public policy, legislative affairs, and executive branch government while contributing to the development of departmental legislative priorities.
What you'll do#
- Research, analyze, and monitor legislation relevant to the Department's programs and policies.
- Maintain and update the legislative tracking system to ensure accurate information on bill status and agency positions.
- Coordinate with Department subject matter experts to gather technical information and assess the impacts of proposed legislation.
- Assist with outreach to elected officials, legislative staff, and other governmental partners.
- Attend legislative and stakeholder meetings to document discussions, track action items, and support project completion.
- Prepare legislative analyses, policy summaries, briefing materials, and talking points for executive leadership.
What you'll need#
- A Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Effective written communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to public service.
- Proven leadership ability and potential for growth.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Majors in Political Science, Public Health, Business Administration, Communications, or Environmental Engineering are relevant to this work.
