Underwriting Intern

About the role#

The Underwriting Intern will gain hands-on experience in workers’ compensation insurance and the fundamentals of the underwriting function. You will learn to assess employer operations and hazards to develop competitive premiums while utilizing underwriting guidelines and predictive analytics tools to service policies and support agent partners.

What you'll do#

• Evaluate and service policies, including renewals, audits, endorsements, and cancellations.
• Assess accounts to determine appropriate risk selection and pricing within designated authority limits.
• Conduct business sector analysis to identify profitability trends, growth opportunities, and predictive model performance.
• Document underwriting decisions and provide timely, professional communication to customers.
• Apply underwriting decisions that align with the organization's defined risk appetite.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Statistics, or Mathematics.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Strong desire and curiosity to learn the insurance business.
• Ability to leverage information technology and data to identify solutions.
• Demonstrated communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in a team environment.

• This is a paid, full-time internship position with a rolling term.
