The Audubon Center for Birds of Prey in Maitland, Florida, offers an internship focused on wildlife rehabilitation and clinical care. This role provides hands-on experience in the operations of the Raptor Trauma Clinic and rehabilitation programs, covering raptor husbandry, conservation, and center operations. Interns will work under the supervision of the Senior Coordinator, Raptor Conservation and the Raptor Conservation Manager.
What you'll do#
- Participate in clinical operations and procedures, including anatomy, feather repair, necropsy, and fluid therapy.
- Assist with daily examinations, treatments, and the administration of medications to sick and injured raptors.
- Prepare food for clinic patients and maintain raptor housing facilities.
- Prepare laboratory slides for examination and analysis.
- Observe surgical procedures and participate in diagnostic testing, radiology, and bird evaluations.
- Share internship experiences through internal communications such as e-newsletters.
What you'll need#
- A High School Diploma.
- Current enrollment or recent graduation within three years in animal science, biology, or pre-veterinary coursework is preferred.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- A demonstrated willingness to learn and collaborate within a team.
- Prior experience handling wildlife or working in animal medicine is highly desirable.
- A commitment to wildlife conservation and the mission of the Audubon Center for Birds of Prey.
Location & details#
- Location: Maitland, FL (On-site).
- Term: Fall 2026 (September 1, 2026 – December 31, 2026).
- Schedule: Part-time, 24 hours per week (three full days), totaling over 400 hours.
- Compensation: $19.00 per hour.
- Note: Housing is not provided.
