Respiratory Practitioner - Internship

About the role#

This internship provides recent or soon-to-be graduates of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program the opportunity to build clinical skills in a supportive healthcare environment. Interns work alongside experienced professionals to transition from classroom learning to clinical practice through a structured orientation and competency program.

What you'll do#

• Maintain department supply and medication inventory to ensure uninterrupted care.
• Stock respiratory care supply stations throughout the hospital.
• Clean, assemble, test, and prepare respiratory equipment, including mechanical ventilators.
• Identify malfunctioning equipment and coordinate necessary repairs.
• Perform respiratory procedures and diagnostic testing after completing training and competency validation, including nebulizer treatments, incentive spirometry, oxygen equipment checks, tracheostomy care, EKGs, and pulmonary function testing.
• Collaborate with respiratory therapists and interdisciplinary teams to deliver patient care.

What you'll need#

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current CPR certification.
• Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program approved by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
• Certificate from an AMA-approved Respiratory Therapy program.
• Six months to one year of didactic and clinical respiratory care experience.
• Foundational knowledge of respiratory anatomy, physiology, biology, microbiology, pharmacology, and medical terminology.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, lift equipment, and perform repetitive fine motor tasks.
