Health Data Integrity Intern

About the role#

The Health Data Integrity Intern is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of patient records within the PelEX Health Information Exchange (HIE) system. This role supports data quality, compliance, and partner confidence by bridging technical, governance, and operational functions. You will work closely with the HIE engineering team to ensure patient records from disparate data sources are correctly linked and managed.

What you'll do#

• Manage day-to-day patient matching activities, including validation, monitoring, and documentation.
• Navigate and utilize the Master Patient Index (MPI) software to support accurate patient identification.
• Review and analyze patient demographic data to determine appropriate identity matches.
• Investigate and resolve data discrepancies and support data integrity audits.
• Annotate and tag patient records to support the training of machine learning-based matching models.
• Assist in developing internal reports or dashboards highlighting data quality trends and compliance status.
• Participate in technical and HIE-related team meetings.

What you'll need#

• Bachelor’s degree or current enrollment in a related program such as Public Health, Data Science, Health Administration, or Statistics.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
• Strong attention to detail with an understanding of patient data integrity principles.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
• Technical support experience in a healthcare or public health environment is preferred.
• Ability to learn new software applications and technical tools quickly.

• Employment Type: Full-time, paid internship.
