This internship supports the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. You will gain hands-on experience in a cleanroom environment, focusing on the fabrication and electrical characterization of wide and ultra-wide bandgap semiconductor devices, including field-effect transistors (FETs) and diodes. This is a full-time, paid position for the Fall 2026 term.
What you'll do#
- Provide technical support in engineering, material science, or physical sciences regarding the research, design, development, and testing of semiconductor devices.
- Perform routine tasks under close supervision and follow detailed procedures.
- Design and fabricate semiconductor devices while applying solid-state physics concepts to analyze performance data.
- Identify problematic areas in data and conduct research to develop solutions.
- Interpret and communicate complex technical information in a non-technical manner.
- Collaborate with experienced professionals in a laboratory setting.
What you'll need#
- Senior undergraduate or graduate student status in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance.
- Proficiency with computers and experience using Microsoft Excel.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a self-motivated approach to working independently.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.

- Location: On-site at AFRL, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Beavercreek Township, Ohio.
- Term: Fall 2026.
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week.
- Travel: Minimal (0-20%).
