About the role#
The Distributed Spacecraft Autonomy (DSA) project focuses on developing and maturing autonomy for distributed spacecraft missions under NASA STMD. This internship involves working on an on-orbit flight demonstration, a ground-based scalability study, and the LUNARIS subproject to support autonomous decision-making for spacecraft swarms.
What you'll do#
- Extend the Core Flight Software (cFS) to support mission requirements.
- Develop autonomy algorithms for the Lunar Autonomous Reconnaissance and Investigation Swarm (LUNARIS) mission.
- Support on-orbit flight demonstrations, including autonomous decision-making for satellite swarms.
- Perform ground-based scalability studies.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science.
- Proficiency in Motion Planning, Formal Methods, Astrodynamics, Multi-Disciplinary Optimization, and Kalman Filtering.
- Experience with cFS/cFE, C/C++, Java, MATLAB, Python, Linux, git, and Jira.
- Previous scientific research experience in aeronautics or space-related areas.
- US Citizenship.
