Humane World for Animals is seeking a Political Affairs Intern for the Fall 2026 term. This role offers exposure to federal and state-level animal protection advocacy, including voter outreach, candidate surveying, and public education on animal welfare issues. This is a paid, part-time, hybrid position based in Washington, DC.
What you'll do#
- Research political candidates, their legislative records, and their backgrounds in animal advocacy.
- Coordinate the distribution of candidate questionnaires.
- Compile data regarding political spending and activity.
- Draft content, including letters to the editor and press lists, to support media relations.
- Plan and participate in state PAC fundraising efforts.
- Conduct voter outreach to support candidates at the state and federal levels.
- Respond to member inquiries regarding PAC operations, candidate relations, and animal welfare issues.
- Prepare an optional end-of-semester project focused on a political communications strategy.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduation within the last two years.
- Strong interest in animal protection issues, government, and politics.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, along with strong online research skills.
- Ability to exercise discretion when handling confidential information.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and maintain professional communication with staff and the public.

- Location: Washington, DC (Hybrid)
- Term: Fall 2026 (August 30, 2026 – November 19, 2026)
- Schedule: 16 hours per week
- Compensation: $18.55 per hour
