Student Payments Collections Advisor

About the role#

The Student Payments Collections Advisor is a temporary, full-time position with an anticipated duration of 3 months. This role focuses on managing and recovering overdue tuition fees and financial obligations. The advisor acts as a primary point of contact for students, working to resolve outstanding balances through negotiation and supportive communication.

What you'll do#

• Contact students regarding unpaid tuition or financial obligations via phone, email, and text.
• Discuss outstanding balances and offer solutions, including payment plans or financial aid guidance.
• Negotiate payment arrangements or extensions based on individual student circumstances and university policy.
• Maintain accurate records of all student interactions within the system of record.
• Collaborate with departments such as financial aid and student services to provide holistic support.
• Stay informed on regulations and guidelines governing student debt collection to ensure ethical compliance.
• Address and resolve student disputes while escalating complex cases to management when necessary.

What you'll need#

• High school diploma or equivalent with 3-5 years of related experience; or an associate degree or higher with at least 1 year of related experience.
• Previous experience in student accounts, financial aid, collections, or customer service.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
• Empathy and patience when assisting students facing financial difficulties.
• Ability to work 8AM to 5PM, Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturdays during peak season.
