Co-Op Embedded Software Engineer

About the role#

Gastronomous Technologies is seeking a Co-Op Embedded Software Engineer to join the core engineering team. This role involves working alongside mechanical and electrical teams to design and implement embedded software solutions for real-time control, sensor fusion, and motion planning. The position is ideal for an individual interested in research and development who can improve platform software quality through test-driven development.

What you'll do#

• Analyze and process sensor data to extract insights for intelligent decision-making in robotics systems.
• Integrate new and existing software into machinery.
• Debug embedded systems to resolve issues and bugs.
• Document software designs and system interfaces.
• Refactor code to improve software generality.
• Create unit and system-level tests to verify functionality.
• Build automated testing systems to ensure software reliability.
• Implement user interfaces based on defined requirements.
• Coordinate with hardware engineers to assess design feasibility regarding cost and time constraints.

What you'll need#

• Proven experience in embedded systems design with pre-emptive, multitasking real-time operating systems.
• Strong programming skills in Python and proficiency in C++.
• Experience developing on a Linux-based platform.
• Understanding of functional programming, design patterns, and git for source control.
• Solid grasp of embedded development, including microcontrollers, firmware, and device drivers.
• Familiarity with clean-coding principles.
• Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong communication skills, organization, and attention to detail.
• Pursuing a degree in Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering, or Computer Science.
