This internship program focuses on professional development and hands-on experience in transportation consulting. Interns collaborate with staff at all levels and take on responsibilities similar to entry-level staff. This is a paid, full-time position for Summer 2026.
What you'll do#
- Analyze and solve complex transportation planning and engineering problems.
- Work on a variety of project types, including traffic operations simulations, bicycle and pedestrian plans, freight and goods movement planning, traffic impact studies, travel demand modeling, transit planning, and regional transportation plans.
- Communicate project information clearly and concisely, both in writing and orally, including during community engagement settings.
- Use specialized software to develop timely and informed recommendations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or completion of a bachelor’s (junior or senior standing) or master’s degree program in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Urban Planning, Public Health, Economics, Sociology, Data Science, or related fields.
- A strong interest in transportation planning and engineering principles.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- A passion for partnering with and serving local communities.
- Proficiency in at least one of the following: Microsoft Excel, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, ArcGIS, statistical software (Stata, R, SPSS), traffic operations software (VISSIM, Synchro), design and drafting software (AutoCAD, MicroStation), or travel demand modeling software (TransCAD, Cube).
