About the role#
Excelitas Technologies is seeking a Technical Writer Intern to support the creation and improvement of technical documents used in optical manufacturing, training, and quality processes. This role works in collaboration with team members to turn day-to-day work processes into clear, easy-to-follow instructions and training materials.
What you'll do#
- Assist in creating and updating work instructions, SOPs, and training documents.
- Collaborate with technicians, engineering, and supervisors to understand processes and document them clearly.
- Organize and standardize documents to ensure they are easy to use on the production floor.
- Support the creation of simple visuals, diagrams, or step-by-step guides.
- Review and update documentation to ensure clarity, accuracy, consistency, and completeness while identifying gaps or unclear instructions.
What you'll need#
- Current student pursuing a degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
- Basic to intermediate technical writing experience.
- Strong written communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to learn technical processes and translate them into clear, step-by-step instructions.
- Working proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to organize information in a structured and logical format.
- Willingness to learn, ask questions, and work with cross-functional teams.
- Experience working in a lab, shop, or manufacturing environment is preferred but not required.
- Exposure to documentation control or quality systems, such as ISO 9001, is beneficial but not required.

- Location: Boulder, Colorado.
- Modality: On-site.
- Term: Summer 2026.
- Duration: Part-time for approximately 10 weeks.
- Compensation: $24.00 per hour.
