The DER Public Policy Intern will support research and analysis at the intersection of public policy and the electric power sector. This role focuses on distributed energy resources (DER), grid reliability, and resilience, bridging classroom theory with real-world energy challenges.
What you'll do#
- Conduct research on state and federal public policy developments regarding DER, reliability, and resilience.
- Explore how technical and advisory work aligns with public policy objectives.
- Analyze policy frameworks concerning the value of DER and their role in grid outcomes.
- Identify and assess states for deeper policy analysis based on market relevance and regulatory activity.
- Summarize legislation, regulatory proceedings, and agency activities.
- Track policy themes and trends to prepare concise internal summaries.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD program in Public Health, Political Science, Economics, Environmental Engineering, Business Administration, Architecture, or a related field.
- Demonstrated interest in energy policy and utility regulation.
- Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Ability to synthesize complex regulatory information into clear insights.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher.

- Location: Austin, Texas (On-site)
- Schedule: Part-time (up to 20 hours per week)
- Status: Paid internship
