This DoD SkillBridge internship provides transitioning service members the opportunity to develop aviation maintenance skills under the supervision of experienced A&P mechanics. The program focuses on gaining civilian work experience through industry training and hands-on maintenance activities. This is a full-time, on-site internship for Summer 2026.
What you'll do#
- Read and interpret technical manuals, guidelines, drawings, and schematics to perform aircraft maintenance.
- Diagnose mechanical or electrical problems and determine the serviceability of aircraft parts.
- Inspect and maintain aircraft to ensure work meets company and regulatory standards.
- Maintain repair logs, documenting all preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
- Assemble and install electrical, plumbing, mechanical, hydraulic, and structural components using hand and power tools.
- Replace or repair worn, defective, or damaged components.
What you'll need#
- Currently serving in the U.S. military and eligible for the DoD SkillBridge program.
- Technical and mechanical aptitude, with a strong preference for aviation maintenance experience.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent; some college education is preferred.
- Excellent communication and organization skills.
- Ability to work as a self-starter with minimal guidance.
- Physical ability to crawl in and out of tight spaces, work at heights of at least 40 feet, and lift or carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in enclosed hangars and varying exterior weather conditions.
Location & details#
- Location: Bridgewater, Virginia.
- Term: Summer 2026.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 0700 to 1600 (not to exceed 40 hours per week).
