SkillBridge Aviation Maintenance Internship

About the role#

This DoD SkillBridge internship provides transitioning service members the opportunity to develop aviation maintenance skills under the supervision of experienced A&P mechanics. The program focuses on gaining civilian work experience through industry training and hands-on maintenance activities. This is a full-time, on-site internship for Summer 2026.

What you'll do#

• Read and interpret technical manuals, guidelines, drawings, and schematics to perform aircraft maintenance.
• Diagnose mechanical or electrical problems and determine the serviceability of aircraft parts.
• Inspect and maintain aircraft to ensure work meets company and regulatory standards.
• Maintain repair logs, documenting all preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
• Assemble and install electrical, plumbing, mechanical, hydraulic, and structural components using hand and power tools.
• Replace or repair worn, defective, or damaged components.

What you'll need#

• Currently serving in the U.S. military and eligible for the DoD SkillBridge program.
• Technical and mechanical aptitude, with a strong preference for aviation maintenance experience.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent; some college education is preferred.
• Excellent communication and organization skills.
• Ability to work as a self-starter with minimal guidance.
• Physical ability to crawl in and out of tight spaces, work at heights of at least 40 feet, and lift or carry up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work in enclosed hangars and varying exterior weather conditions.

Location & details#

• Location: Bridgewater, Virginia.
• Term: Summer 2026.
• Schedule: Monday through Friday, 0700 to 1600 (not to exceed 40 hours per week).
