DoveLewis Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital offers a two-week observational externship for fourth-year veterinary students. This program is designed for students interested in pursuing post-graduation rotating internships or ECC residencies. The externship takes place at a non-profit, AAHA-accredited, and VECCS Level 1-certified teaching hospital.
What you'll do#
- Observe operations within a specialty hospital, with a focus on ER and ICU departments.
- Learn directly from staff doctors.
- Participate in observational ER rotations.
- Work on the floor four days a week, with shifts lasting 10-12 hours daily.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a fourth-year student at an AVMA-accredited college of veterinary medicine.
- Eligibility to work in the United States.
- Ability and willingness to sign a liability waiver.
- Understanding that this position is strictly observational and does not serve as a preceptorship or graded rotation.
Location & details#
- Location: Portland, Oregon.
- Modality: On-site.
- Term: Rolling start dates every other Monday, available most of the year excluding June and late December.
