Recreational Therapist Internship

About the role#

Dignitas Incorporated offers a full-time Recreational Therapist Internship focused on improving the quality of life for individuals with Traumatic Brain and Spinal Cord injuries. Interns work across five group homes and a semi-independent living program to assist clients with leisure planning, social integration, and physical fitness. This is an unpaid, year-round program that provides hours toward internship requirements while working under the supervision of CTRS-licensed staff. Interns will receive training in the five-step APIED framework used to create personalized treatment plans.

What you'll do#

• Facilitate and lead individual and group activities, including therapeutic sessions focused on ADL skills, team building, and self-expression.
• Assist the Recreational Therapist in coordinating large events, including managing logistics for food, entertainment, and venue reservations.
• Develop and implement cognitively stimulating programs for clients.
• Maintain accurate documentation of client attendance and outcomes in accordance with state, HIPAA, and NCTRC regulations.
• Assist clients with activities of daily living as needed.
• Maintain a flexible schedule that includes days, nights, and weekends depending on outing requirements.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a relevant degree program, including Psychology, Nursing, Health Administration, Kinesiology, or Public Health.
• Basic knowledge of Traumatic Brain and Spinal Cord injuries.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• A valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check.
• Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 20 lbs.
• A basic understanding of CPR and medical procedures is strongly encouraged.
