About the role#
The Legal Innovation Fellow works within the Legal Innovation Lab to develop digital tools and technology-driven approaches that expand access to justice. This role sits at the intersection of law, technology, and community, combining hands-on legal practice with tool design to help individuals understand and enforce their rights. The fellow will collaborate with the Legal Innovation Lab Director and CED Law supervising attorneys to co-design projects and submit applications for public interest fellowships. This position is scheduled to begin in early Fall 2027.
What you'll do#
- Communicate with clients in a respectful, empathetic, and trauma-informed manner.
- Provide direct legal services through CED Law to ground tool-building work in real-world legal practice.
- Collaborate with technologists, data analysts, and attorneys to scope, design, and develop digital tools such as guided interviews or automated document assembly.
- Conduct user research and community engagement to ensure tools reflect actual community needs.
- Manage fellowship project goals, timelines, and deliverables in coordination with supervisors.
- Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations, legal aid providers, and courts to support tool implementation.
- Contribute to data analysis to evaluate tool effectiveness and identify service gaps.
What you'll need#
- JD earned in 2026 or expected in 2027.
- Demonstrated passion for housing justice and public interest law.
- Strong desire to center client and community needs in legal advocacy and design.
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment.
- Interest in legal technology and access to justice innovation.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities.
- Ability to travel within the Denver metro area for community events and meetings.
Location & details#
- Location: Denver, Colorado (Hybrid).
- Term: Beginning Fall 2027.
- Compensation: $65,000 per year pre-admission to the Colorado bar, increasing to $75,000 post-admission.
- Benefits: Includes medical, dental, vision, 401(k), flexible time off, and a $720 annual technology stipend.
- Language differential: A $2,000 annual salary differential is available for employees who utilize two or more languages at work, subject to assessment.
