The Water Utilities Communications intern works directly with the Communication Coordinator to support resident engagement and promote department goals. This role focuses on both external and internal communications, assisting with social media strategies and efforts to expand water conservation and education initiatives.
What you'll do#
- Plan events in collaboration with city departments and local nonprofits.
- Write informational and engaging stories regarding water utility topics and activities.
- Execute social media planning and implementation.
- Research and prepare internal reports.
- Update internal and external websites.
- Design informational materials for water utility customers.
- Coordinate media coverage for department activities.
- Fulfill open records requests and photograph events.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a full-time undergraduate student in Communications, Marketing, Public Health, Journalism, or Business Administration.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience communicating through Facebook and Twitter.
- Ability to learn new content management systems.
- Strong time management skills.
- Valid Class C driver's license.
Location & details#
- Location: City Hall, Arlington, Texas.
- Schedule: 15 to 20 hours per week, with flexibility to work some weekends.
- Status: Paid, part-time internship.
- Requirements: Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal background check.
