Administrative Intern

About the role#

This is an 11-month, full-time administrative internship based at Mary H. Matula Elementary School. This position is a three-year commitment; upon conclusion, interns must transition into a different role or return to the classroom. Candidates who have previously served as an administrative intern with Charles County Public Schools are not eligible for this position.

What you'll do#

• Participate in the recruitment, screening, and selection of instructional and non-instructional staff.
• Establish professional and behavioral standards in accordance with Board policy.
• Assist staff with professional development and participate in in-service training.
• Supervise student activities, co-curricular programs, and common areas including halls, restrooms, cafeterias, and playgrounds.
• Maintain communications with parents, civic associations, and community resources.
• Assist with the design of master and student schedules, textbook control, and school supply inventories.
• Interpret school and Board policy for the community and staff.
• Counsel students, teachers, and parents on various educational and school-related topics.

What you'll need#

• Bachelor’s degree and a Standard Professional Certificate issued by the Maryland State Department of Education.
• Three years of successful teaching experience.
• Current enrollment in a master’s level school administration program.
• Demonstrated ability to handle highly confidential information with discretion.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting abilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work both independently and within a team.
• Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of others.

Location & details#

• Location: La Plata, MD.
• Work Modality: On-site.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, stoop, and kneel; must be able to lift, carry, or move weights between 10 and 50 pounds. Requires visual acuity for keyboard use and the ability to navigate school facilities.
