Cartesia is seeking a rising 3L Legal Intern to join the in-house legal team for the Fall 2026 semester. This role provides hands-on experience working on legal matters related to frontier AI, commercial transactions, privacy, and intellectual property. You will support the General Counsel and cross-functional teams, including Operations, Product, Sales, Marketing, and Engineering, by conducting legal research and building reusable resources to help scale the business.
What you'll do#
- Conduct first-pass reviews and triage business legal requests, including customer agreements, NDAs, and data processing agreements.
- Research and analyze emerging global AI regulations to assist in drafting internal governance policies.
- Help ensure compliance with major privacy regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, BIPA, and CUBI.
- Assist with intellectual property workflow, including copyright issues related to AI training and filings for trademarks and patents.
- Work alongside non-legal stakeholders to evaluate legal risks and provide practical, decision-ready recommendations.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled as a rising third-year student (3L) at an ABA-accredited law school, graduating in 2027.
- Experience producing legal writing, including memos, contract summaries, issue briefs, or policy analyses.
- Demonstrated ability to take a defined research, review, or legal operations project from intake to a usable work product.
- Comfort using AI tools and Google Workspace for legal work efficiency.
- Ability to work onsite at the San Francisco office for 15 hours a week.

- Compensation: $50 – $65 per hour.
