Compliance Intern

About the role#

The Compliance Intern will join the Market & Trading Compliance team for a 12-month, full-time position. This role offers hands-on experience in wholesale power markets across North America, working alongside compliance professionals, traders, and cross-functional teams to understand regulatory frameworks and internal compliance programs.

What you'll do#

• Monitor trading activities and identify potential compliance risks across physical and financial power markets.
• Conduct regulatory research and communicate developments from key regulatory bodies.
• Contribute to the development, maintenance, and improvement of compliance policies, procedures, and controls.
• Assist with data analysis and validation to support trade surveillance and reporting.
• Prepare internal reports, documentation, and audit materials.
• Support compliance training efforts by preparing materials and coordinating learning sessions.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across Trading, Risk, Legal, and Operations.

What you'll need#

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Commerce, Finance, Economics, Energy Management, Law, Public Policy, or Regulatory Studies.
• Recent graduate or graduating within the last year.
• Prior internship, co-op, or academic experience in compliance, risk management, energy markets, finance, or regulatory environments.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint).
• Ability to conduct regulatory research and synthesize complex information.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Legal eligibility to work in Canada.
