The Social Work Intern supports children and families in coping with social, emotional, and environmental challenges within Boys & Girls Club programs. This role combines direct social work practice with youth development responsibilities to ensure a safe, supportive environment for club members. You will work under the supervision of the Director of Social Work Interns and Volunteers and site coordinators to provide individual support and facilitate high-quality programming.
What you'll do#
- Incorporate core social work competencies into existing programs.
- Assist site coordinators in managing and addressing member behavioral challenges.
- Provide individual support to members regarding homework and technology needs.
- Plan, implement, and supervise programs across areas including education, leadership, health, arts, and recreation.
- Facilitate program readiness and engage with members during physical activities.
- Supervise groups of at least 15 members while maintaining a safe environment.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, schedules, and participant information.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and one-on-one supervision meetings.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Human Resources, Nursing, or Public Health.
- Knowledge of behavioral management techniques and experience addressing behavioral challenges.
- Proficiency in classroom management skills and the ability to lead small groups.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with youth, families, and staff.
