About the role#
AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Transportation Tolling and ITS Engineering Intern for the Fall 2026 term. This part-time position is based in Atlanta, Georgia, and supports the State Road and Tollway Authority (SRTA) General Engineering Contract Program. You will work directly from the client’s downtown office as an extension of their staff, gaining exposure to the full project life cycle of express lane infrastructure and tolling operations.
What you'll do#
- Apply knowledge of toll systems, toll operations, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technologies to support planning and engineering initiatives.
- Assist in the design and development of tolling concepts, including requirements analysis, specifications, and system testing.
- Work within multidisciplinary, project-oriented teams to support design, construction, and systems projects.
- Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and operational discussions.
- Establish and maintain accurate records of technical data and project documentation.
- Collaborate with internal project management, operations, legal, and communications teams.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in Civil, Mechanical, Industrial, Environmental, Computer, or Electrical Engineering, Business Administration, or Data Science.
- Completion of at least 36 credit hours toward a degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Industrial and Systems Engineering.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Strong technical writing and verbal presentation skills.
- Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Atlanta, Georgia.
- Term: Fall 2026.
- Work Modality: This is an on-site role. A minimum of 12 hours per week must be completed in person, with core hours required on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. Total commitment is a minimum of 20 hours per week.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship with an hourly range of $25 to $31.
