Security Analyst Intern

About the role#

Arete is seeking a Security Analyst Intern for the Fall 2026 term to join our Managed Detection and Response (MDR) team. This in-person internship provides hands-on experience in a professional Security Operations Center, allowing students to move beyond theory to assist in the defense of client environments against real-world cyber threats.

What you'll do#

• Respond to active cyber threats as a first line of defense.
• Triage and investigate security alerts using enterprise EDR and XDR platforms.
• Perform threat hunting to identify subtle Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs).
• Analyze malicious activity using logs, in-house tools, and open-source intelligence.
• Assist in MDR client lifecycle management.
• Participate in the shift schedule, including taking on Shift Lead responsibilities.
• Escalate findings to Senior MDR Analysts and communicate with clients.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment as a college student in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Ability to commit to 12-16 hours per week, spread across 3-4 shifts.
• Foundational knowledge of Operating Systems (Windows, Linux, or macOS).
• Familiarity with scripting languages such as PowerShell or Python.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
