The ABS Harsh Environment Technology and Digital Research Centre (HET&DRC) is seeking an intern for the Fall 2026 semester. This role supports research on an intelligent ice-monitoring system for ships, contributing to the development of advisory service capabilities for vessels operating in icy waters and harsh atmospheric conditions.
What you'll do#
- Conduct literature reviews on AI and Machine Learning methods for ice-loads prediction.
- Assist in the design and development of an AI-based solver for ice-loads calculation.
- Process, visualize, and interpret engineering datasets.
- Write optimized and efficient code using Python and C++.
- Assist in the testing, validation, and benchmarking of AI models.
- Maintain organized project files, including datasets, code, and documentation.
- Participate in project meetings and collaborate with the local and global engineering teams.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a graduate or undergraduate student in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, or a similar field.
- Substantial experience in developing and implementing code.
- Proficiency in Python; experience with C++ is preferred.
- Familiarity with Machine Learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn is preferred.
- Ability to work independently as a self-driven contributor.
