    About the role#

    The ACLU of North Carolina is seeking a part-time Development Intern to support our fundraising and donor engagement efforts. This role reports to the Development Director and provides hands-on experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor stewardship, and event operations. The intern will work 10 hours per week and gain exposure to the strategies used to advance civil liberties and civil rights across the state.

    What you'll do#

    • Support fundraising and donor engagement initiatives.
    • Assist with the planning and execution of at least two donor events, including a member stewardship event and a documentary screening.
    • Coordinate with event sponsors and assist with logistics, guest outreach, and day-of event support.
    • Draft key materials such as one-pagers, newsletters, and donor acknowledgments.
    • Conduct online research to support development operations and prospect tracking.
    • Assist with database maintenance and knowledge management tasks.

    What you'll need#

    • At least 2 years of undergraduate level education.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
    • Creative problem-solving skills and a willingness to ask questions.
    • A passion for social justice and civil rights.
    • Interest in learning about nonprofit development and fundraising strategy.
    • Preferred majors include Political Science, Public Health, Business Administration, Sociology, Communications, Psychology, Human Resources, or Criminal Justice.

    Location & details#

    • Term: Fall 2026.
    • Work Modality: This is an on-site position based in the Triangle area. The intern must have reliable transportation to visit the Durham office approximately once per week.
    • Compensation: $15 per hour for undergraduate students or $21 per hour for graduate students.
