Academic Fashion Design Internship

About the role#

This academic internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the design process for a growing brand. Interns work directly with the head designer and junior designer to support the development of new product lines. This is a paid, on-site role based in New York, NY, offered in exchange for school credit.

What you'll do#

• Collaborate on the creation of mood boards, CADs, and technical packages for new product sampling.
• Manage follow-up communication with factories throughout the sampling process.
• Prepare final tech packs for production and oversee the process through to the completion of an approved final product.
• Scout for new fabrics and prints by visiting print studios and fabric mills.
• Assist in the development and selection of artwork.
• Create flat sketch designs for new products and develop design sketches to enhance existing products.
• Prepare final art for technical packages and complete CAD presentations for sales.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a degree program for Fashion Design, Art, Graphic Design, or Industrial Design.
• Proficiency in CAD fashion software, Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop), and Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel) on a Mac platform.
• Demonstrated ability to work with tech packs, fittings, comments, and corrections.
• Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
• A portfolio is required for all applications.
• Experience in children's wear and hand illustration skills are considered a plus.
