1823 Partners is seeking a Legal Intern to support the legal and governance functions across a range of corporate, transactional, and tax matters. Working with the General Counsel and legal and deal teams, the intern will gain exposure to the legal operations of an insurance-first asset management firm. This role contributes to corporate governance, transaction support, tax analysis, and the implementation of board reporting infrastructure.
What you'll do#
- Support corporate governance for the firm.
- Assist the legal and deal teams across the transaction lifecycle, including drafting and reviewing NDAs, term sheets, engagement letters, and investment documents.
- Perform first-pass document review to identify legal, commercial, and risk issues.
- Research and prepare analyses on the tax treatment of investment structures, entities, and transactions.
- Support the implementation of board reporting software and help establish repeatable processes for assembling and distributing board and committee materials.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a J.D. or equivalent law degree; rising 2L or 3L students are preferred.
- Demonstrated interest in asset management, private markets, and corporate, fund, or transactional law.
- Strong legal research, drafting, and analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams and handle confidential information discreetly.
- Proficiency in written and verbal communication.
- Comfort with adopting and configuring new technology platforms.
- Coursework or prior exposure in tax, corporate governance, or transactional law is a plus.
