About the role#
This is a full-time, paid Summer 2027 internship based in East Hartford, Connecticut. You will join the Real-Time Embedded Systems discipline within the Control and Diagnostic Systems organization. This team develops software for gas turbine engine control and diagnostic systems. You will work on-site to support the development and certification of these systems for military and commercial engines.
What you'll do#
- Contribute to requirements definition, software architecture, and low-level design for embedded software written in C.
- Assist with development tasks to ensure compliance with airworthiness standards like MIL-STD-516 and DO-178.
- Support hardware and software integration and debugging on target platforms using tools such as logic analyzers, emulators, and hardware test benches.
- Collaborate with system architects and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Communicate technical status, risks, and mitigation plans to your team.
What you'll need#
- You must be pursuing a Bachelors degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM field.
- You must be actively enrolled in your degree program through the completion of the internship.
- A minimum 3.0 GPA is required.
- U.S. citizenship is required for this position.
- Experience programming in C, C++, or Python.
- Understanding of real-time embedded software concepts such as scheduling, concurrency, and coherency.
- Familiarity with real-time operating systems and multi-core processors.
- Knowledge of SPI, MIL-STD-1394, MIL-STD-1553, or Ethernet communication stacks.
- Experience with Agile methodologies and configuration management tools like JIRA and Git.
